Hybrid nano‐ and microgels doped with photoacoustic contrast agents for cancer theranostics

Photoacoustic imaging (PAI) is an emerging noninvasive and inexpensive bioimaging modality, which has stimulated a wide interest in recent years for cancer theranostics. Hybrid nano- microgels have been designed as protective carriers to incorporate PAI contrast agents due their biocompatibility biodegradability, high loading capacity, versatile surface chemistry, stimuli-responsive properties. These key features offer unprecedented opportunities the design of innovative multifunctional theranostic agents. This review focuses on development photoacoustic active biomedical applications theranostics hallmark imaging. The various chemical natures gels elaboration methods hybrid matrices are summarized discussed. Their multimodal presented, highlighting merits potential treatment diagnosis.
